Technology Evolution
A rich history of cooperation between ZIN Technologies, the Cleveland Clinic, and NASA has provided the unique insight required to develop the vMetrics Technology. The genesis of vMetrics came from NASA’s identification of the need for a small, truly ambulatory, multifunctional, and flexible medical monitoring device for use onboard space vehicles. The Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Space Medicine and ZIN Technologies recognized the unique and significant commercial potential for a device with these capabilities. ZIN Technologies was awarded a NASA research grant in 2004 and 2005 for this technology development and commercialization.
ZIN Technologies, with over 35 years of spaceflight product expertise, teamed with the Cleveland Clinic to develop the commercial biomedical capabilities of vMetrics. Based on strong market potential, this patent-pending design has received technical development and commercialization funding from such sources as Cleveland State University, Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center, NASA, and the Ohio Third Frontier Fund. ZIN Medical will further develop this disruptive technology for the terrestrial medical market through vMetrics.

System Features & Benefits |
The modular design allows physicians and medical researchers to configure the vMetrics System to accommodate their patient-monitoring needs through the selection of specific modules. |
The long battery life and wireless telemetry capabilities will greatly reduce the frequency of both hospital stays and nursing visits by allowing -patients to be easily monitored outside the hospital setting. |
The modular distributed architecture allows vMetrics to be used across any commercially available wireless network including WiFi, cell phone and wireless medical telemetry systems. |
The vMetrics System, as compared to other commercially available systems, is very compact, light-weight, significantly
more user friendly and allows for 2-way communication. |

Description |
ZIN Medical, Inc., a company jointly owned by ZIN Technologies, Inc. and the Cleveland Clinic, has developed a multi-parameter wireless technology biometric monitor. The vMetrics System helps advance the quality of health care for both patient and physician. The vMetrics unit is a reconfigurable device that records and transmits a patient’s physiologic parameters in realtime via cell phone, Bluetooth, WiFi, RF and wireless medical telemetry systems. It can be configured for a number of protocols in the cardiac, neurological, sleep disorder, obstetrics, and orthopedic fields. This capability can greatly reduce patient visits and costs while increasing testing frequency, convenience, and overall quality of life. |

System Technology
The vMetrics system can support from one to five physiological modules ranging from ECG to joint angle. This allows for vMetrics to be used in a variety of applications, including home health care, clinical research, and outpatient management. vMetrics can record the data to local storage, transmit the data wirelessly, or provide for closed-loop control of equipment such as a drug-delivery system. In addition to increased functionality, vMetrics significantly reduces the volume and weight of other physiological monitors. |
